The final day here at Lakehurst, NJ went extremely well. We could not have asked for better weather or passengers. The morning started off with a Enlistment ceremony by Mid-Atlantic Recruiting BN commander LTC Harry Woodmansee. We congratulate and welcome the new Soldiers to the Army Team.
After two states and three bad weather days, Mr. Kenneth Wong finally made his first Tandem jump. Mr. Wong was ecstatic to finally get his chance to put his knees in the breeze. The joke going around the drop zone the past two days was about his bad luck with the weather. Yesterday we got winded out, but today Mother Nature felt it was his time to jump. Congratulations sir!
Today brought a celebrity to the dropzone as well. Actor and now radio personality Danny Bonaduce stopped by to check out the operations and of course take the opportunity to jump with the Golden Knights. Danny is a long time and proud supporter of the military. It was a privilage to be able to take him on a tandem jump. Sir, we appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule to stop by and we appreciate your continuing support of the US Army.
We would like to say thank you to Chef Ian Smith of the Ocean County Vocational Culinary Arts school for the fantastic lunches that you provided the passengers the entire week.
The Golden Knights would like to thank LTC Woodmansee and everyone in the Mid-Atlantic Recruiting Battalion for the excellent support and hospitality. We travel all over the United States in support of Army Recruiting and have to say you lead the way and have set the standards of support very high. The Tandem Team truly appreciates everything you did for us during our week long stay.
We would like to send our condolences to the families of the Hindenburg tragedy that took place on Thursday, May 6, 1937. The site of the crash was across the street from our dropzone. There was a small ceremony Thursday evening to remember the tragedy.
That wraps up our visit to Lakehurst, NJ. Its been a great week. The Tandem Team heads to Cincinnati for another Tandem camp. It will be another exciting week capped off with jumps into the Cincinnati Reds baseball games Friday and Saturday and maybe a few other unique opportunities.
