Some members of Black Demonstration Team went to speak to a group of Soldiers at 11th Quartermaster (82nd Airborne Division) this afternoon. In an effort to inform potential candidates for the Team’s annual assessment and selection program, SFC Fleming, SFC Slade, SSG Borger, and SGT Medley explained the prerequisites to attend the program, what to expect, and some inside hints and tips about what it takes to be a Golden Knight. SFC Arlyn Slade, who is in his first year on the Team had a special interest in the visit. As a Parachute Maintenence Technician himself, he had some inspiring words for the young troops, who were mostly privates and specialists.”Remember this,” said Slade, “You have one of the hardest jobs in the Army. A lot of people depend on you to do your job well. Just remember that this is not all there is…as a rigger there are many opportunities available to you, one of which is being a Golden Knight.” The team members fielded questions from the Soldiers and joked about the Team comeraderie.”We work hard, then again we play hard too,” SFC Fleming joked.”But in he end, we are all Teammates and get the mission done.” After the presentation, Team Members ate a barbecue lunch with the Soldiers and chatted one on one with the troops. The visit was a huge success and several of the Soldiers plan to follow up with a visit to our Team headquarters at Fort Bragg for a tour of the facility. Great way to spend a Friday afternoon!!
