The #Golden Knights had a very special opportunity last weekend to take a special tour of the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Thanks to a friend of the team, Chief Master Sergeant Stephen Haggett (the Pentagon First Sergeant), the team got a one-of-a-kind personally guided tour of the building, complete with visits to the Sergeant Major of the Army, the Chief of Staff of the Army, the Secretary of the Army, and the Chief of Staff of the Air Force.
The tour took most of the day, given that the Pentagon has 6.5 million square feet of floor space and one lap around the outside ring is over a mile in length! The building is full of museum-like displays of all sorts of artifacts and historical pieces. The Army wing hallways were rich in history, with artifacts ranging from the Revolutionary War to today’s conflicts in the Middle East. Also along for the tour was the Battalion Commander, LTC Joe Martin; two members of the Tandem Team, SFC Eric Heinsheimer and SSG Joe Jones; and the Team Six pilot Mr. David Clay and Crew Chief SSG Jeff Oddo. Story and photos by SGT Rachel Medley (special thanks to SMSgt Lisa Arnold for helping with the group photos so I could be in some of them) #ArmyStrong 1. 4. The Team gets a rare opportunity to see Gen George W. Casey stand still for more than ten seconds, as he pauses for a quick photo op in the hallway outside his office.
