The Coca Cola 600 comes to Charlotte, NC on Sunday night. The Nascar race is a long time supporter of the military. The Tandem Team will be starting the race off with a great canopy show just before 6pm. Around 200,000 fans will be on hand watching the race, and what better time to show off the skills of todays Army than right before “Start Your Engines”. Today Army racing brought out a great group of people covering the race for FOX, Speed Channel and ESPN, to the Golden Knights Training site in Laurinburg, NC. The morning started out with lightening and thunder. Really, it was storming pretty good on the drive out today but by the time SFC Mike Elliott gave the tandem briefing the skies were clear and it was time to take to the skies. First out of the plane was Jeff Hammond from FOX Sports and the Speed Channel. SSG Jon Ewald showed Jeff what its like going 120 MPH without the use of engines. Also from FOX and Speed was Dick Berggren. ESPN Producer Jamahl Brown and ESPN Magazine writer Ryan McGee were among the group overcoming their personal courage and trusting a Soldier they just met to help them safely jump out of an airplane. A great experience was had by all. Next stop for Tandem Team will bring us to 5000 ft above Charlotte Motor Speedway In the Photos:
