U.S. Army Golden Knights will take part in Col Joe Kittinger’s 50 year celebration of his historic high altitude jump.
This weekend half of the Golden Knight 8-Way Team headed to Deland, Florida to take part in the United States Parachute Associations Hall of Fame Induction
Ceremony. The weekend was also a celebration of Col Joe Kittinger’s historic
jump from 102,800 feet in 1960. We took part in eight 50 ways where 50 people
built a large formation with the letter “K” in the middle in honor of Col
Kittinger’s historic achievement. We were able to jump smoke which added an
extra element for the crowd and other jumpers.
In between the large formation jumps the Team performed Demonstration jumps for
the crowd. We were able to perform simultaneous high speed landings with smoke.
It has been an honor for us to attend such an event and represent the U.S. Army
Golden Knights with many of the pioneers of sport parachuting.
Tomorrow, the plan is three more 50 way formations and two demonstration jumps.
