Breakfast of Champions Part 5 – Breakfast d’jour?  Potato wedges and a cold hamburger patty.

Ah, but the bread, butter, cheese and warm summer sausage hit the spot.

2010 WPC Draw Brief

Kurt reads the draw.

The draw is out! Now the question is, what does that mean in English?  ‘The draw’ is the official sequencing of formations for the ten-round competition. Preceding each meet is a competitors briefing, during this briefing the schedule of the meet is put out, as well as any rules or special circumstances that require any special attention. In the case of WPC–2010, the hot issue was whether or not jumpers would be able to stand on the portion of the aircraft that houses the landing gear, and if they would be able to hold onto a portion of the wing to allow them exit a bit more smoothly. The answer in both cases was “YES.” This is a good thing for us.

BK briefs the Team on the Draw.

Once GK8 received the draw and the meeting was adjourned, no time was wasted in prepping for the meet. Even though the 8-Way event won’t begin until Monday, Team Members took time this evening to engineer all ten rounds that consist of the draw. Starting from round #10 and working back to round #1, each jump was walked on the ground in order to find the most efficient moves between formations to allow for the highest scores possible. Once the draw is out, engineering sessions are generally secretive, as each team must come up with their own plans. Similar to an NFL playbook, you don’t want opposing teams to know your plays.

Because the 8-Way event won’t start until Monday, GK-8 is planning to rest day on Sunday. Usually teams will take one rest day prior to competition, this ensures that jumpers stay mentally fresh and don’t over think ‘what if’ scenarios before round #1.

Tune back in on Monday for updates from GK8 at WPC- 2010.
